Perception is how we select what to focus on and organize information into ways we can process and understand. Using our senses helps us to find our own view on the reality of the things we are seeing and experiencing. As speakers, we need to be aware of perception and how it impacts our goals. If our audience sees us in one way, then that is how the speech will come across to them. They perceive us from their frame of reference, which is influenced by their background and experiences.
