What are Informative Speeches?

4.1.1

Informative speeches share knowledge and understanding of a topic.

An informative speech is a type of speech in which you give your audience information supporting a topic area or thesis. We speak informatively in our everyday lives, from telling someone the weather to speaking in a small group about our dogs. When giving an informative speech, our goal is to illustrate or define the topic, not to persuade the audience to change their thoughts, beliefs, or actions. Informative speeches should be unbiased, well supported through research, and the sources should be cited within the speech to add credibility.
